The gas use tax rate for the next month was released by the Indiana Department of Revenue. Beginning March 1, the tax will rise by 1.4 cents to 18.6 cents per gallon.
The average gas price for the previous month is used in Indiana to determine this tax, which is then multiplied by the state retail tax. Last month, the average retail price of a gallon of gas was $2.66.
The gas tax in February was 17.2 cents per gallon, which meant that every 10 gallons of gas cost $1.72 in taxes.
In addition to the gasoline tax, citizens of Indiana also pay two other taxes. A federal tax of 18 cents per gallon and an excise tax of 33 cents each are charged.
Hoosiers pay $3.35 per gallon of gas, despite a retail price of $2.66.
The current state average for a gallon of gas is $3.31.
